At the venue? Use your phone's GPS and compass. Otherwise drop a pin and set which way it faces: the front of the building, the terrace, or the direction your subject will look into the camera. You'll see when the sun is on it, when it's in shade, and where the shadows fall.
Stand in front of it, where the camera will be. Hold your phone flat and point the top edge straight at the building or subject. The box turns green when you're steady enough to lock.
